First Integrated Renewable Project in Kuwait Nears Completion

SHANGHAI, CHINA --(eSolarEnergyNews)--JinkoSolar, a global leader in the photovoltaic  industry, today announced that it has supplied 5 MW of solar modules to TSK Electronica y Electricidad, S.A, for use in the Shagaya Renewables Park PV Power Plant, the first integrated renewable project located in Kuwait

Kuwait's Ministry Of Energy and Water owns this 10 MW PV project made up of 5MW of thin film and 5 MW of PV modules. The project is expected to be completed by September 2016 and will generate over 9624 MWh of clean energy annually.

Solar Carport Construction Underway at CSU Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA--(eSolarEnergyNews)-- California State University, Long Beach  and SunPower announced today that construction is underway on a 4.8-megawatt SunPower® Helix™ Carport solar power system at two university parking areas. CSULB will purchase the solar power generated by the system under a power purchase agreement that offers competitive rates, enabling the university to offset approximately 15 percent of campus electrical load with clean, renewable solar power.

ReneSola Announces Sale of Solar Project in Japan

SHANGHAI, CHINA --(eSolarEnergyNews)-- ReneSola, a leading solar PV project developer and provider of energy-efficient products, today announced that it sold a 1.23 MW solar power project located in Ibaraki, Japan. The project qualifies for Japan's 32 Yen feed-in tariff. Revenue from the sale will be recognized in the third quarter and all proceeds have been collected.

ReneSola is developing 31.5 MW of solar PV projects in Japan. Including the Ibaraki project, 29.6 MW are in late stage development and expected to be monetized in the quarters ahead.

IKEA to Install Washington’s Largest Rooftop Solar Array in Renton, WA

RENTON, WA.--(eSolarEnergyNews)--IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, today announced plans to install solar panels atop the relocated Seattle-area store under construction in Renton, WA. Installation will begin this fall, with completion expected in winter for the largest rooftop solar array in the State of Washington.

The store’s 244,504-square-foot solar array will consist of a 1.18 MW system, built with 3,420 panels, and will produce approximately 1,319,000 kWh of electricity annually for the store, the equivalent of reducing 927 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) – equal to the emissions of 196 cars or providing electricity for 137 homes yearly (calculating clean energy equivalents at www.epa.gov/energy/greenhouse-gas-equivalencies-calculator).

Solar is Making a Huge Difference In Sub-Saharan Africa

Last week Zambia set a new price record for utility-scale solar-generated energy in Africa with the support of the World Bank Group’s (WBG) Scaling Solar initiative. The auction for 100 MW (2x50 MW) resulted in a price as low as 6 cents/kWh.

This is good news for the country, which much like the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa faces acute electricity shortages. Nearly 700 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa don’t have access to electricity.

Canadian Solar Begins Operation of 100 Megawatt Mustang Solar Power Project

GUELPH, ONTARIO, CANADA --(eSolarEnergyNews)-- Canadian Solar, one of the world's largest solar power companies, today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Recurrent Energy has reached commercial operation of the 100 MWac/134 MWp Mustang solar power project in Kings County, California.

"The commercial operation of the Mustang solar project continues a historic year that will see Recurrent Energy complete more than one gigawatt of U.S. solar photovoltaic (PV) projects," said Dr. Shawn Qu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Solar.

In 2015, Recurrent Energy secured a tax equity investment commitment for the Mustang project from U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation (USBCDC).

Colorado Unveils Low-Income Rooftop Solar Program

DENVER, CO --(eSolarEnergyNews)-- The Colorado Energy Office (CEO), Energy Resource Center (ERC), and Colorado Springs Utilities announce the installation of a 2kW rooftop solar array as part of the state's Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). The CEO WAP provides free, cost-effective energy efficiency measures to income-eligible households in all of the state's 64 counties.

Historically, the WAP has only allowed energy efficiency measures, but the Department of Energy recently authorized CEO to be the first state to integrate rooftop solar into weatherization services. This project with ERC and Colorado Springs Utilities will demonstrate the feasibility of combining energy efficiency measures with rooftop solar offerings to help reduce utility bills for residents most in need—those paying more than 4 percent of household income on energy costs.

Sullivan Solar Power Voted Best Solar Company in San Diego

Community Solar Gardens Are All The Rage

 For much of the recent rise of solar power, the industry has been divided in two: distributed rooftop solar, and utility-scale solar parks. According to a new report from GTM Research, a third type of solar in which consumers share renewable energy installations is set to take off this year — and to represent a large market share of the industry by 2020.

Known as community solar, solar gardens, or more simply shared solar, GTM researchers found that the U.S. “market is approaching a tipping point.” With a total of 66 megawatts installed cumulatively by the end of 2014, the report predicts that installations will grow five-fold in 2015, with 115 megawatts installed. By 2020, there will be 1.8 gigawatts, nearly equivalent to the total amount of solar power installed in the United States in 2012.

AES to Deploy 37.5 MW of Advancion® Energy Storage Arrays for SDG&E

ARLINGTON, VA.--(eSolarEnergyNews)--The AES Corporation today announced its subsidiary, AES Energy Storage, has entered into two contracts with San Diego Gas and Electric. AES will install and commission two energy storage arrays totaling 37.5 MW using its Advancion® energy storage solution at sites in San Diego County, California. The SDG&E-owned energy storage arrays will help to improve regional reliability and integrate greater amounts of renewable energy when operational by the end of January 2017.

Apple Announces Environmental Progress in China & Applauds Supplier Commitment to Clean Energy

3D Wafer Feature To Significantly Reduce Solar PV Cost

Metropolitan Makes Fourth Solar Investment at Granada Hills Water Treatment Plant

LOS ANGELES, CA --(eSolarEnergyNews)--One week after the Metropolitan Water District celebrated the activation of its largest solar power project, the agency’s board of directors today authorized another clean energy investment.

 Metropolitan’s board voted to invest $6.76 million to develop a 1-megawatt solar power generating facility on six acres at the district’s Joseph Jensen Water Treatment Plant in Granada Hills. The solar installation is expected to produce 2.3 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean, renewable energy a year, enough to power about 325 homes.

“This project is another clear example of a much larger strategy that merges the needs of the environment and those of the economy,” said Metropolitan board Chairman Randy Record.
“We need water for our homes and industries. Yet we need to supply it in a sustainable way,” Record continued. “Converting our treatment plants to run more on solar power marks another milestone in our movement toward environmental sustainability.”
